Unpacking inclusion with Candoco

Tuesday 20th July, 2010

Photo of Candoco company in a line

When we say ‘inclusive’ – what do we really mean? Who’s version of ‘inclusive’ are we working towards? How can inclusion be manifest throughout all levels of developing, creating and showing work – and not just ‘read’ from a final piece or performance. These are just some of the fascinating questions that Candoco Dance Company were grappling with last week as we spend a day with dancers, associates, management, artistic and admin staff plotting, dreaming and scheming.

The photo shows the company deciding if they agreed or not with a key statement I was reading out - bit like RunAround if you are old enough to remember that!

Candoco is holding an open space event in September (September 15th at the Laban Centre, London) to explore these issues more fully with the rest of the dance sector – get in contact with Candoco direct to find out more (www.candoco.co.uk)
